Add clients one at a time or from a file
Who can do this: Admin
By the end of this article, your clients are in the Clients list. You can add a client by typing their details, or bring in many at once from a file.
Before you start
- To add clients one at a time, have each client's name and, if you have them, their email, phone and address.
- To import from a file, have a CSV file: the app asks for "a QuickBooks customer export or any spreadsheet with Name, Email, and Phone columns".
Steps
To add one client:
- Open your clients. On a computer or tablet, select Clients in the sidebar. On a phone, select More at the bottom of the screen, then select Clients.
- Select Add Client. The Add New Client form opens.
- Enter the client's Full Name. It is the only field the form marks as required.
- Fill in the client's Email, Phone, Street Address, Apt / Suite, City, State and ZIP as far as you have them.
- Select Save Client.
To add clients from a file:
- On the Clients page, select Import Customers.
- Select Choose CSV file and choose your file.
- Read the preview. It says how many customers the file holds and how many will be added, and lists them by name. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
- Select Confirm import.
What you see
- After Save Client, the app shows "Client added", and the client appears in the list.
- After Confirm import, the app shows how many customers were added, and they appear in the list.
- A customer in your file who is already in your list, with the same name and email, or with the same name and phone when the file gives no email, is shown in the preview under "Will be skipped" and is not added a second time. When every customer in the file will be skipped, Confirm import stays unavailable.
If something blocks you
- "Name is required" in the Add New Client form. Enter the client's Full Name and select Save Client again.
- "Invalid email address" in the Add New Client form. Check the email for a typing mistake.
- "Invalid phone number format" in the Add New Client form. Check the phone number for letters or missing digits.
- "Can't import" in the preview, with rows such as "Row 3: Name is required". Each row the app cannot import is listed with its reason, and the rest of the file can still be imported. Fix those rows in the file, save it as CSV again, and import it again.
- "No customer name column found. Expected a header such as Name." after you choose a file. Your file has no column headed with the customer's name. Head that column Name, save the file as CSV again, and choose it again.
